Starbound

This passion project falls into a series of cover designs I did. The cover is for Maya Al-Khzaee's manuscript "Starbound", a tale about the fall and rise of empires set in a sci-fi world.
During the process, I fell in love with the contrast of red and blue and the resulting glow of the complementary colours. It was one of my first, more complex digital illustrations regarding composition and shading. To mirror the book's theme of fallen empires, the main figure is standing atop crumbling Roman pillars, while the abstract, crumbling city above ties in the science fiction aspect.
For the title, I experimented with cutting letters without impacting readability too much.
